Our founder, Ivan, having graduated in 1960, is one of Ontario's more senior active Land Surveyors. He has for the last fifty years been in the forefront of introducing today's technology to the surveying profession. He, along with Graydon Horton (the co-founders of Horton and Wallace), introduced computers into daily usage in the office by importing from California in 1961, a refurbished second generation computer. This Control Data computer was somewhat larger than a desk and had radio tubes as its main component. It is difficult for today's young surveyors, their college trained technicians and our clients of today to fully appreciate the significance of that event. However, to try and put that into focus we should all recall that at that time Northern Electric (Bell Canada) was just then completing the introduction of dial telephones in Ontario. Hort always claimed that we were the first survey company in Ontario to have in house computers. What a change from logarithms!

Since 1990 Ivan has taken part in, or more recently observed, the expansion of IBW into different parts of Ontario. From our headquarters in the Durham Region we have purchased and operate local survey offices from the ever bustling Toronto through Northumberland County, Peterborough County, the Quinte Region and on to bucolic Prince Edward County.

Not being totally satisfied with simply running a survey company, Ivan has involved himself in numerous activities in the community. He served for twenty four years as a School Trustee in the Durham Region and for an equal period of time volunteered with the John Howard Society. His time with the John Howard Society culminated in the six years he spent as their National President. He served for six years on the Ontario Board of Parole with half of that time being spent as Hearing Chairman. This was followed by twelve years as Chairman of the Appeal Board under the Employment Insurance Act. For his efforts in the community, working on behalf its citizens, he was awarded the Queen's Jubilee Medal and The Apostolic Blessing of Pope John Paul II.

With the intention of tapering off due to his age Ivan is now a professional consultant for the IBW, member of Finance Committee at St. Gregory's Church, Chief Financial Officer of a local Political Association and President of the Board in his Condo.
